The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced the nomination of 13 national projects, to compete in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes, which will be announced at a special ceremony organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland, next March.
The announcement of the nominated projects is accompanied by opening the online voting for the public to choose five projects in each of the 18 categories of the competition. The voting starts on 29 January 2018 and lasts until 18 February 2018. The winning project will be announced in the second phase, after counting the votes.
The selected national projects include “Mabrouk Ma Yak” (Newborn baby bundle) and “Our Future” by TRA, “Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Learning Program” by the Ministry of Education, “UAE’s National Students Cyber Awareness Initiative” by Khalifa Empowerment Program for Students (Aqdar), “Limitless Ambitions” and “Digital Kid” by the General Women’s Union, “Dubai Land Department Real Estate Blockchain” by Dubai Land Department, “Dubai Pulse” by Smart Dubai Office, “Hololens apps bundle for 6 sectors” by AR Master Software and Design, “Salama Program” and “e-Health initiative” by Dubai Health Authority, “Ajman Digital Transformation Programme” by Ajman Digital Government
In this context, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: “The number of projects and the diversity of the nomination categories reflect the maturity and development of smart services provision process in the UAE. This is a practical reflection of the wise leadership vision of achieving a comprehensive transformation towards smart cities to reach customer happiness. These figures are a practical indicator of accomplishing major progress in building a knowledge-based economy, and achieving sustainable development based on national talents and human resources.”
H.E. Al Mansoori added: “Over the years, we have been able to win several prizes. This year, we look forward to continue this momentum, to enhance the UAE’s excellent presence in all international forums and competitions related to the telecom sector and smart governments. On this occasion, I would like to praise the efforts of all federal and local government entities, which have provided many initiatives and smart solutions that serve the customers and their happiness.”
