Riverbed Technology, the performance company, has announced that its Stingray product family is available through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace.
This enhanced offering allows customers in the Middle East to deploy an application delivery controller (ADC) solution with Web Content Optimisation (WCO) and Web Application Firewall (WAF) security capabilities. These new features are an expansion of the Stingray offering that was first launched on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) in 2009 using Amazon’s DevPay model.
In addition, Riverbed also announced that it intends to make available the Stingray Traffic Manager software with support for Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) so that enterprise customers can deploy highly available applications either within a single availability zone or spanning a hybrid environment of availability zones and third-party data centres.
Stingray Traffic Manager software is a leading application delivery controller (ADC) for applications running on Amazon Web Services, helping developers build applications that can scale to much higher transaction rates, with greater resilience and flexibility. Stingray Traffic Manager software is available through AWS Marketplace in a combination of options, including the Stingray Aptimizer’s industry-leading WCO technology, and Stingray Application Firewall’s application-aware web application firewall for deep application security:
- Stingray Traffic Manager scales cloud applications by offloading SSL and connection management, enhances availability with global load balancing across availability zones, and supports DevOps initiatives with built-in TrafficScript for rapid application development;
- Stingray Aptimizer helps developers by automating the process of content optimisation and acceleration, reducing the need to hand-tune every web page;
- Stingray Application Firewall provides an additional layer of Layer 7 protection to help protect against external threats such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting and other external threats.
“By running the Riverbed ADC solution in Amazon’s cloud environment, we have experienced instant performance improvements, resulting in faster performing web applications. The intelligent web traffic management software routes requests to different pools and the back-up and restore features give us the confidence that we can deal with any eventuality,” said Simon McLean, Managing Director of Click Travel, an online business travel provider.
Large-scale applications require a high-performance, scalable solution for SSL and compression, global load balancing, automatic WCO, and in-depth protection against external threats. Stingray Traffic Manager is designed to address these requirements by integrating seamlessly with applications deployed on AWS to provide load balancing, user experience optimisation, application scalability, and fine-grained application control. Providing advanced traffic management features that are not available with traditional load balancers, Stingray becomes a key component of an organisation’s application infrastructure. Pricing is flexible, giving more deployment options for capacity reservation and cost models, including Amazon reserved instances and spot pricing.
“The newest generation of online applications for retail, gaming, and digital media need the ability to scale up rapidly to meet customer demand and be able to roll out new features on a daily or weekly basis,” said Philippe Elie, Director, Business Operations EMEA at Riverbed. “Maintaining this level of sustained service enhancement means that developers need to maximise productivity and accelerate release cycles. Stingray software unleashes application performance in the Amazon Cloud and allows developers to focus on building new features and services.”
The Stingray Traffic Manager software with support for Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is expected to be generally available in Q4 2012.
