Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communication held its Qatar Digital Government Forum 2017 on Monday, drawing a crowd of government authority and leading private sector representatives.
The forum highlighted the status of Qatar Digital Government strategy 2020, and included presentations on the progress made in the implementation of the e-government projects.
Assistant Undersecretary of the government’s information technology sector Hassan Jassim al Sayed said that Qatar’s e-government steering committee has been working hard since its inception in 2013 on encouraging all government authorities to complete their digital plans.
As a result of the committee’s efforts, the number of digital services offered by the government increased to 1660 services by the end of the first quarter of 2017, he said. A total of 1079 of them were offered online and 581 others offered on mobile. The total number of digital transactions increased from six million in 2014, to 128 million by the end of March 2017. Qatar aims to raise the total number of digital services to 2000 by the end of this year, with 1300 services online and 700 available on mobile devices.
Participants also discussed the role of the e-government steering committee, chaired by the Ministry of Transport and Communication, and its main goals as well as how to deal with any challenges facing the implementation of its strategy.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani launched Qatar E-Government 2020 strategy in May 2014. It consists of a system to complete the digital transformation of the government through establishing the digital infrastructure and government applications.
