Oracle buys drug-design software maker's IP

Oracle said it has bought the intellectual property of Conformia Software, maker of software for managing the design and development of drugs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Oracle plans to integrate Conformia's technology into its own PLM (product lifecycle management) offering, as well as tie it into other Oracle applications and third-party sources, the company said in a statement.

While likely modest, especially compared to its pending deal to buy Sun Microsystems, Oracle's latest move fits into its larger strategy of pursuing vertical markets in search of growth.

Meanwhile, Conformia has had ties to Oracle's rival, SAP. The latter's NetWeaver Fund made an investment in Conformia in 2007, according to an SAP press release.
