du to upgrade network

The project is expected to enhance du network performance and operations. Nokia Siemens Networks will expand du’s 2G network and introduce its 3G HSPA+ network with speeds of up to 42Mb as part of du’s existing 3G HSPA+ network.

“This comes in line with du’s ongoing strategy for mobile network development” said Hatem Bamatraf, senior vice president of network development at du. “Nokia Siemens Networks will help us upgrade and modernize our network to improve coverage, and enhance our customers’ communication experience on the move in services such as internet browsing, email, mobile TV, voice and video mail among other value added services,” Bamatraf concluded.

“Our network offerings for du will not only provide a better service quality, but also a wider range of applications for its subscribers,” said Kalle Autto, head of du customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Our strong product portfolio and expertise will help du to significantly improve its operational efficiency and lower energy consumption, while enabling faster and more efficient service introduction.”

Under the scope of the deal, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide a comprehensive portfolio of telecommunication equipment and services across radio, core, transmission, value added services and operational support systems. This upgrade comes on the back of the successful completion of financing facilities for NSN equipment announced earlier this month.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Base Station hardware and software will double du’s voice capacity and improve its GSM/EDGE data rates. Moreover, it will enable du to offer HSPA+ data rates of up to 42Mbps in selected locations. Nokia Siemens Networks software reduces the signaling load in the network and extends the battery life of end users’ handsets by up to 50%. Nokia Siemens Networks will also deploy an all-IP FlexiPacket Microwave Backhaul solution in order to reduce du’s operating costs and additionally integrate the operator’s VAS platform.
