UAE-based social sports app 10 has launched globally and on home soil.
Headquartered in Dubai with an office in London, 10 was founded in September 2016 by Scottish entrepreneur Andy Meikle, and is backed by Dubai-based Daman Investments, which has invested $2.6 million in the company.
The app was created to give fans a platform to share their emotions about the sporting moments that matter to them. It allows fans to discuss, react, capture and share content about key sporting moments with friends, while getting real-time, personalised news and score updates.
While chatting about their favourite moments, fans can also share and edit pictures and videos as well as adding sports stickers and filters.
The free app’s launch coincided with the start of the 2017/18 English Premier League season.
“Many sports apps allow you to stay updated with news and scores, but they’re very passive; they lack a fun or social element,” Meikle said. “Alternatively, there are many social apps that lack relevant sports information to drive the conversation, so our platform allows fans around the world to quickly get their updates and share the emotion of sport with others.”
Meikle previously co-founded social networking app ‘Sportlobster’, which was acquired by Daman Investments in 2016.
He added, “The level of smartphone penetration and drive for innovation in Dubai coupled with sports fans’ passion and social media usage in the region, makes it the perfect place to launch the innovative sports app.”
