Enterasys to demo mobile management software for BYOD

Enterasys plans to display at Interop next month an appliance for mobile device management (MDM), spurred by the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) phenomenon at the workplace.

Citing industrywide research, Enterasys says 75% of all devices supported by IT are user owned. And that 75% of the trouble tickets generated are from mobile users.

With that, Enterasys is introducing the Mobile IAM appliance at Interop. Each 1RU hardware appliance and virtual appliance software supports 3,000 devices, but can scale to 100,000. They perform auto discovery; device profiling; context-based policy management on 45 attributes; authentication; VPN enforcement; identity, access and guest access management; inventory management; and auditing and reporting.

Enterasys is also offering professional services to help enterprises cope with BYOD management. The company says it can install a 3,000 device management infrastructure in 10 days after a free needs assessment. Any additional time needed will be provided at no charge to the customer, Enterasys says.

The services include auto discovery of existing infrastructure, customised deployment and optimisation, integration with existing wired and wireless LAN, access policy definition and deployment, and documentation.

The Mobile IAM hardware appliance costs $23,995, and 3,000 device scalabilty add-ons are $19,995. The VM appliance costs $20,995 and requires a VMware ESX server. Incremental 3,000 device scale options are $16,995.
