The Dubai Police have reportedly recovered over $1.9 million (AED7 million) from a gang who deceived two brothers who wanted to buy Bitcoin.
According to local media reports, the gang has lured two Asian brothers who wanted to buy Bitcoin into an office in Al Muraqabbat area. The head of the gang had reportedly deceived the commercial shop owner who put an advertisement to sell his office and trade license.
Six members of the gang were waiting for the two brothers inside the office and other three were outside guarding the office. They then assaulted the victims before stealing the cash and escaping.
The gang of 10 were arrested within 48 hours and the money was recovered by the Dubai Police.
Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police, praised his officers who arrested the gang in short time despite the fact that the thieves had left no evidence behind.
He said that they managed to identify the mastermind behind the robbery within four hours before arresting the rest of his Asian gang.
The Police had identified a Gulf national and arrested him in a neighbouring emirate. He confessed to committing the robbery.
Meanwhile, Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police, said the data analysis centre used smart programmes and artificial intelligence technology to trace the gang and helped the officers to arrest them in a record time.
