Cisco has announced plans to create 115 new jobs in its research and development (R&D) facility in Galway, Ireland.
The new jobs will cover a range of R&D areas including communication and collaboration, software technology including enterprise and cloud-enabled desktop, mobile applications, desktop virtualisation and real-time web communications.
Barry O’Sullivan, senior VP for Cisco’s global collaboration business, said: “The projects announced today, in collaboration software and virtualisation, are in line with Cisco’s strategic product and market priorities and will further increase the scale of the Irish operations in terms of both engineering capability and diversified technologies.”
He added: “Since approval of this project we have already brought significant talent on board and are actively seeking to fill new software engineering, product management and user experience positions.”
Funding of 26 million (£21 million), from the Irish Government through regional development agency IDA Ireland, will help Cisco to create the new jobs over the next two years.
Last July, Cisco announced 6,500 job cuts across its business as part of an effort to reduce costs by about $1 billion (£623 million) per year.
