Asian tourists are very tech-savvy and 71 percent share their holiday experiences online after returning from their trips, according to Visa study.
Seventy percent rate cameras, 54 percent rate computers and 32 percent rate entertainment devices as their preferred companions when travelling abroad.
Travellers today have a need to stay connected wherever they go and depend on technology to be in touch with their family and friends.
Searching information
Sixty-five percent of global travellers said they take a smartphone with them to search for essential information and easily share their travel experiences with friends and family.
Forty-five percent of global affluent travellers rate Internet capability as very high and give it even higher importance than gadget size and weight.
Seventy-one percent of global travellers use online sources for trip planning, 65 percent for bookings of independent travel and 57 percent for information.
Online resources that offer reviews from frequent travellers are quickly becoming the first source of information for most global travellers.
“Technology has impacted every aspect of our lives, and the way that we plan and enjoy holidays is no different,” said Ross Jackson, head of Cross-Border, Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East & Africa, at Visa Worldwide. “Online resources that offer reviews from frequent travellers as well as a host of other information such as currency converters, pictures, booking and discount facilities are becoming the first source of information for most global travellers.”
