Alibaba is utilising GITEX Technology Week to promote the latest innovations on offer to small and medium-sized enterprises.
Michael Mang, Head of Business Development and Marketing, MENA, Alibaba, views the event as a great opportunity for prospective customers to understand the capabilities of these SMEs.
“For the last couple of years, we have worked closely with the government, and over time we have realised that there is a lot of potential in this region,” he said. “At GITEX 2016, we are launching our Trade Assurance programme, as well as showcasing a selection of interesting innovations from our SMEs.”
Trade Assurance is a buyer-protection programme that’s designed to help create trust between buyers and suppliers. It covers buyers on Alibaba.com with 100 percent payment protection with their selected Trade Assurance suppliers.
“You’re covered if your products are not shipped on time as per the contract with your supplier, or if the quality of your products is not up to standards,” said Mang. “If a supplier is constantly doing things well, they are awarded with credits; if a customer complains about a supplier, this impacts their credibility and reputation.”
As well as discussing the programme with prospective customers visiting the stand, there is also a range of smart innovations on display to demonstrate the capabilities of the SMEs which are using the online outlet.
“One of the devices we have on display is a smart robot, which can speak and interact with humans using the eight sensors on its body. These devices can be used as waiters, receptionists or security guards, as well as fulfilling other roles. This technology is really cutting edge, and aligns with the Dubai vision of a smart future,” said Mang.
The Alibaba team believe that SMEs are very capable, but their innovations are just simply not seen enough. “That is where we come in as a platform to showcase these capabilities, and this is our main focus at GITEX this year,” said Mang.
