Fintech Surge, Dubai World Trade Centre’s new exhibition, conference and meeting point for the Fintech community co-located with GITEX Technology Week later this year, is providing an all-new online platform to keep the Fintech community connected and engaged.
The series – which will complement the live event – will feature digital keynotes, think tanks, webinars and more, providing unparalleled insight on the ongoing ways that emerging Fintech firms are disrupting the status quo.
The first webinar will take place on Monday 18th May at 12pm UAE time (10am Central European Time, 1.30pm India), and will discuss if Fintech will continue to thrive amid current widespread market consolidation or whether it will fall under the shadow of incumbent banks.
Research shows that large financial institutions are already preparing for an age where they will be forced to partner with or compete with emerging Fintech players. While 88 percent of financial services executives are increasingly concerned that they are losing revenue to innovators, 82 percent expect to increase Fintech partnerships in the near future. Investors are also taking notice – global Fintech funding rose to $111.8 billion in 2018, up 120 percent from $50.8 billion in 2017.
Webinar attendees will find out if we really will transition to a cashless society within the next three years, if market trends will force Fintechs and banks to collaborate – and ultimately consolidate – and whether there will be a softening of regulations to support Fintech growth amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The discussion will feature insight from experts including Michael Cunningham, Chief Strategy and Digital Officer, Banque Saudi-Fransi, who has already built “3.5” banks; Salmaan Jaffery, Chief Business Development Officer, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, who leads the free zone’s clients and 2024 growth initiatives; and PwC’s Anna Maj, an expert advisor to the EU.
The discussion will be moderated by Michael Gromek, Head of Operations and Compliance at Safello and contributor for Forbes Europe.
