Extreme Networks said it is buying the software assets of Soapstone Networks, the carrier control plane company formed from Avici System’s exit from the core router market.
Soapstone was liquidating operations.
Extreme is purchasing Soapstone software for provisioning services and assuring service levels in carrier Ethernet networks. Extreme says the transaction underscores its commitment to Carrier Ethernet.
The Soapstone software will be integrated into Extreme’s EPICenter network management system. From the management system’s interface, operators will be able to view, provision and control Provider Bridging, Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB), PBB-Traffic Engineering, Ethernet Access Protection Switching and Virtual Private Line sessions and services.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
