Kaspersky Lab warns against heavy IT consumerisation

According to a recent worldwide study by “O+K” conducted in association with Kaspersky Lab, 16.7% of all Internet users around the world own a tablet and 9.1% will definately buy a tablet in the next 12 months, while 53.3% personally own a smartphone. 18.8% of users have two or more smartphones and 1.8% have a tablet and to two different devices while 14.2% have smartphones and two different devices.

One of the most prominent trends of 2011 was the emergence of so-called spear phishing – highly targeted spam that sees fraudsters focusing on a pre-selected group of users, the company said.

In 2011 the percentage of spam with malicious attachments increased more than one and a half times compared to the previous year and amounted to 3.8% of all mail traffic. The malicious users behind these sorts of mailings make active use of social engineering. Their messages may imitate official notifications from government bodies or online services, entice users with special offers or can even intimidate recipients, threatening to block access to various online accounts, Kaspersky Lab representatives warned.

In light of these events, Kaspersky Lab has recently introduced Kaspersky One, a multi-platform, user-centric universal security solution that brings comprehensive protection for the wide range of personal devices, starting from personal computers and notebooks and all the way to smartphones and tablets.
