“Green storage and cloud technologies are gaining popularity among regional CIOs as they become the main driver for reducing CAPEX and OPEX in IT infrastructure,” according to Mahesh Vaidya, CEO at ISIT Middle East and Chairman of Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Europe Middle East Committee.
He added the technologies are gaining high acceptance due to the CIO or IT manager becoming cautious about IT budgets and allocating resources to the entire operations based on ROI.
Vaidya’s comments come ahead of a one-day SNIA Europe Mini Academy that will be organised by ISIT Middle East on behalf of SNIA Europe in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. To be held on 30th May at the Marriot Hotel, the event will focus on topics such as cloud storage and security, virtualisation, green storage technologies, data protection and fibre channel over Ethernet.
SNIA is a non-profit trade association committed to leading the storage industry worldwide in developing and promoting standards, technologies and educational services to empower organisations in the management of information.
SNIA Europe Mini Academy is dedicated to high-level knowledge exchange, thought leadership and promoting the understanding and adoption of networked storage and other data centre technologies.
The academy workshop’s one day agenda is built on content from SNIA tutorial programme that are completely vendor-neutral. SNIA Europe has conducted similar workshops at Abu Dhabi and Dubai earlier. Attendance at the academy is free for end-users and qualifying channel companies.
Vaidya said: “A large amount of investment is put into storage infrastructure, which is an integral part of the whole network. Therefore, it is essential to look at the business impact of these technologies and solutions. The discussion on cost savings especially CAPEX and OPEX has been ongoing for some time but with new age technologies such as cloud, virtualisation and green solutions, the technology landscape has definitely changed.”
