Microsoft unveils 365 Copilot Chat, boosting workplace efficiency across industries

Customers can get started with either the free or paid experience in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, available at m365copilot.com or in the Windows, Android, or iPhone app stores.

Microsoft has unveiled its latest innovation, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, revolutionizing the way businesses operate across various industries, from entertainment giants like Disney to industrial behemoths like Dow.

This new offering expands Microsoft 365’s capabilities by integrating pay-as-you-go agents into the existing free chat service for commercial customers, thus broadening access to advanced AI tools across organizational levels, said Jared Spataro Chief Marketing Officer, AI at Work in his blog on Wednesday.

  • Free, secure AI chat powered by GPT-4o.
  • Agents accessible right in the chat.
  • IT controls, including enterprise data protection and agent management.

The introduction of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat aims to democratize the use of AI in the workplace, enabling employees from customer service representatives to marketing executives and frontline technicians to harness the power of AI. This service is built on the robust GPT-4o architecture, ensuring a secure, web-grounded AI chat experience that’s not only easy to use but also significantly enhances productivity and collaboration.

Key features of Copilot Chat include the ability to conduct market research, create strategic documents, and prepare for meetings with enhanced efficiency. Users can upload documents directly into the chat, where the AI can summarize, analyze, and suggest improvements. Furthermore, Copilot Pages allow for real-time collaboration, blending content from various sources including the web, making it a powerful tool for content creation.

Additionally, Microsoft has introduced a tiered agent system where natural language processing enables automation of repetitive tasks directly within Copilot Chat. This functionality is particularly beneficial for customer service roles, where agents can quickly retrieve CRM data, or for technicians who need immediate access to detailed product knowledge stored in SharePoint.

The enterprise-grade features of Copilot Chat include foundational capabilities from the Copilot Control System, such as enterprise data protection for data privacy and security, governance of access, and comprehensive management of usage and lifecycle of agents and Copilot itself.

While Copilot Chat serves as an entry point to AI adoption within organizations, Microsoft 365 Copilot remains the premier offering, providing a personal AI assistant that integrates deeply with Microsoft’s suite of productivity tools like Teams, Outlook, and Excel. This flagship version continues to evolve, adding new capabilities designed to address significant workplace challenges.

Microsoft’s strategic expansion into AI-enhanced communication tools aims to provide every employee with the resources to increase their productivity and impact, thus accelerating AI transformation and achieving substantial ROI across enterprises. Available through the m365copilot.com platform and various app stores, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is set to become an essential tool in every modern workplace’s arsenal.
