Dell on Monday unveiled its SonicWALL SuperMassive 9000 Series next-generation firewall. The solution provides advanced threat protection at multi-gigabit speeds with “near-zero” latency, Dell said in a statement.
Unlike legacy firewall and intrusion prevention techniques, the new 9000 Series blocks threats before they enter the network by looking at all traffic , regardless of port or protocol. It does this using Dell SonicWALL’s patented Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection (RFDPI) technology.
The RFDPI engine scans every byte of every packet of network traffic across the all ports and delivers full content inspection to eliminate threats, Dell said. This includes a full inspection of SSL-encrypted traffic, as well as non-proxyable applications. The system also provides protection against millions of unique malware variants.
“The volume, form and sophistication of malware inflict huge vulnerability challenges on the corporate network,” said Patrick Sweeney, Executive Director of Product Management, Dell SonicWALL. “At the same time, enterprises struggle to balance the need for network access and performance with network protection.
“The Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive 9000 Series solves exactly these enterprise challenges through technology generally associated with carrier-class networks.”
Abdullah Alfi, Engineer, King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah, said that the new firewall had drastically improved the hospital’s security capabilities.
“Our performance has increased by 10 times,” he said. “The firewall has provided us with advanced threat protection and high-performance intrusion prevention.
Included in the series are the 9600, 9400 and 9200 models, all of which offer full IPS and application control performance up to 12 Gbps. The models are also highly versatile, featuring four SFP+ 10GbE interfaces, 16 1GbE interfaces and a dedicated management interface.
This means they can either be deployed in a traditional gateway security deployment, or else as an additional layer of security for traditional networks in a transparent layer-two bridge or wire-mode deployment.
Additionally, Dell claimed that the SuperMassive 9000 Series comes with industry’s highest core density architecture, in a one-rack appliance.
“The one-rack appliance, which saves space, power and cooling costs, delivers network security throughout the hospital. We were able to reduce our costs and are satisfied that we have comprehensive protection against sophisticated threats,” Alfi added.
